Vivekananda College

Vivekananda College (Mahila College) was established in 1970 with grants from the UGC and Delhi Administration. The objective was to make higher education available to young women from the trans – Yamuna area. The journey of the college began from a school building in Gandhi Nagar with a group of 300 students and 25 teachers. Today, it has more than 2000 students and more than 100 teachers. The college caters to the needs of students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
Apart from catering to the academic aspirations of the students, the college faculty is conscious of a sense of responsibility for the general well-being of the students. They are sensitive to the personal problems, issues of marginalization and the various social challenges faced by the students. There is a process of mentoring and interaction between teachers and students beyond classroom teaching; and this continues to be one of the most significant features of this college.
